Network connectivity specialist Emulex has announced new channel promotions allowing VARs to buy its 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBA) for the current price of its 8Gb models. The promotions run through Q4 under the “LeapOver 8” banner as part of a strategy to “assist resellers in future-proofing their customers’ networks” according to the vendor.

Partners can take advantage of “better together” and “best of speed” promotions that offer discounted HBA pricing when purchased alongside EMC VFCache and any Brocade 16GFC switch. Both deals effectively reduce 30% off the list price of Emulex’s flagship LightPulse 16Gb products.

“The growth of the total data in the storage universe will nearly triple from 2.7 zettabytes in 2012 to more than 8 zettabytes by 2015,” said Shaun Walsh, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development. “Given this level of continued data growth, we expect the demand for 16GFC bandwidth will accelerate the transition from 8GFC to 16GFC.”

The vendor points to data from Crehan Research that indicates 16GFC will represent 30 percent of the fibre channel server-class adapter ports by 2013, representing a 25 percent faster transition to 16GFC than the transition to 8GFC.

All Emulex VARs across EMEA can take advantage of these promotions that run until December 31. Product fulfilment is through Emulex distributors including Avnet, Hammer, Comstor and Azlan with discounts calculated through the Emulex’s Connect deal registration system. EMC partners can qualify for the discounted HBA’s through the EMC Cost Relief program.
