MacBook Pro bug prompts ongoing complaints for Apple

Apple has been criticised for ignoring a major bug present in some MacBook Pro models

Apple has come under fire for reportedly ignoring a major bug found in certain MacBook Pro models, after users complained the issue had continued despite the vendor being repeatedly alerted.

The bug results in system crashes and graphics failures, it has been reported, with the problem persisting for several years for some users.

Apple is apparently aware of this flaw, yet users with the offending laptops have found the company reluctant to address the problem.

Multiple reports of the problem were found by BGR on Apple's own support forum, and were mostly related to early-2011 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models.

According to the site, one thread has more than 7,600 posts and 1 million views, yet Apple has not intervened.

Problems first started to be reported on a regular basis back in October 2013, with many users reporting system crashes and problems with their displays (often appearing as banding or a blank screen), but May 2014 saw a steady increase in these kinds of complaints.

AppleInsider reported that people close to the company's internal repair network have said there are currently "no immediate plans" to replace these MacBook Pro models.
