Former HTC execs unveil smartphone startup Kazam
Kazam set to launch devices later this year.
Two former HTC executives have setup their own smartphone company known as Kazam and plan to launch devices before the end of 2013.
Michael Coombes, former head of sales at HTC, is the CEO of Kazam. James Atkins, former head of marketing of HTC in the UK, will act as CMO.
In a short statement, Coombes and Atkins outlined their vision for the company which will focus on the European markets and customer service. However, no details were given about the devices so it is unclear which operating system Kazam will use although Android remains the most likely.
"Kazam's dynamic structure and focus on local markets means we can react quickly to the ever evolving and diverging needs of today's consumer. We aim to provide quality smartphones that are accessible to everyone," said Coombes.
Atkins added that Kazam will aim to differentiate itself with after-sales service.
"Kazam is about stunning design, robust hardware and intuitive technology, underpinned by outstanding customer service," said the CMO.
It remains to be seen whether a startup such as Kazam will be able to make an impact on the market. Manufacturing giants such as HTC, Nokia and Sony are struggling to catch up to Apple and Samsung. Kazam could find it difficult to get customers to jump ship to an unknown brand.
