Our Surface Pro 3 review sample was powered by a 1.9GHz Core i5 dual-core i5-4300U+ 8GB of RAM.

HP favoured the more efficient Atom series processor for the ElitePad 1000, with the tablet shipping with the 1.6GHz Z3795 processor and 4GB of RAM.

Battery life

Neither battery is replaceable so this is an important consideration for mobile workers. The ElitePad does support a second battery when you clip on the Expansion Jacket, so it has the edge here.
