Apple forecasts climate change catastrophes will fuel iPhone demand
The company said features such as its integrated flashlight will make them attractive to people during natural disasters
Apple believes its iPhone will experience a surge in sales if there are more natural disasters caused by climate change.
A report by Business Insider revealed by the firm has explained how natural disasters such as rising sea levels and droughts could lead more people becoming loyal to the company's sumptuously-featured devices. In fact, the company has predicted that sales could increase by $2.3 billion as concerned citizens rush to buy one of its devices.
If the weather becomes more unpredictable, Apple thinks this will result in more people seeking the features included in its devices.
"Mobile devices can serve as the backbone communication network in emergency and quasi-emergency situations," the report said. "They can serve as a flashlight or a siren; they can provide first aid instructions; they can act as a radio; and they can be charged for many days via car batteries or even hand cranks.
"Over time, as people begin to experience severe weather events with greater frequency, we expect an increasing need for confidence and preparedness in the arena of personal safety and the well-being of loved ones."
It also details how those companies are viewed by authorities focused on reducing emissions and promoting more environmentally friendly products.
"Apple would be well positioned to benefit from such regulations, due to our ongoing focus on the energy efficiency of our products," the report said.
A number of businesses including Disney and Bank of America have released similar reports that detail the risks and opportunities presented by climate change around the world.
All of these reports issued by multinational companies highlight how their business would be affected, including identifying who is responsible within the firm for overseeing their environmental strategy and what action plans are in place.
