Barracuda unveils Data Inspector for OneDrive and SharePoint
The tool will help customers scan for sensitive information and malicious files
Cloud security solution provider Barracuda has announced its new Data Inspector offering, designed to help customers automatically scan OneDrive for Business and SharePoint data for sensitive information and malicious files.
The firm says the tool offers powerful data classification capabilities to help users identify types of data such as Personal Identifiable Information (PII), user credentials, credit card information, and more.
Customers can also use Data Inspector to identify whether data has been shared internally or externally, as well as where it is stored.
“Barracuda Data Inspector has the capability to scan, analyse and blank out any sensitive data that it finds,” explained Giovanni Goduti, RVP of Northern Europe at Barracuda.
“More importantly, partners can offer customers an initial free scan of their data, which is exciting in itself, as we’re providing users with the capability to decide what needs to be done with their data, allowing them to be more compliant and secure than ever.”
OneDrive and SharePoint deployments are often used to store sensitive data, making them more vulnerable to a breach. They can also be hosts to dormant malware, viruses, and ransomware that can go undetected by native security.
With Data Inspector, Barracuda says customers can easily scan for this sensitive data and then decide what needs to be done with it in terms of compliance and other needs.
Among its features, the solution includes the ability to create data classifiers to identify specific information types – such as employee or student IDs, project codenames, and more.
It also provides information on whether data has been shared internally or externally, identifies and removes malicious files, as well as sends automated notifications and alerts on the data in question.
Poppy Angell, data Ppotection specialist at Phoenix Software, a York-based Barracuda partner, said the sheer amount of cyber threats facing its public sector clients often leaves them open to a “wide range of challenges”.
“A product like Data Inspector will not only allow our customers a much deeper look into their infrastructure for sensitive data, but it allows them peace of mind knowing their OneDrive and SharePoint are safe from any malicious files, keeping them compliant, freeing up important resources but, most importantly, giving them peace of mind,” she said.
