Google Threadit is a TikTok-like short video platform for professionals
The company hopes the tool will put an end to back-to-back meetings and lengthy chat discussions
Google’s Area 120 startup incubator has unveiled Threadit, a short video recording platform for professionals to collaborate and share work.
Threadit, which Google is positioning to sit somewhere between long-form, video conferencing and short texts and emails, is available both as a standalone website and a Chrome extension, and it integrates seamlessly with Gmail and requires no additional setup.
Users can record themselves, share anything on their screen, and easily switch between the two, according to the company. What’s more, the tool automatically stitches short video clips together to create a cohesive video, eliminating the need for editing.
As for privacy, Threadit users can choose to keep their videos public or restricted and control whether recipients can respond to their clips. Google also states that is "does not claim ownership in any of your content, including any videos, text, data, information, and files that you upload, share, or store in your Threadit account.”
Threadit also comes preloaded with templates, from code review to product tutorials and leadership updates. The company believes the tool could be welcome addition for businesses looking to cut down on meetings and for users that aren’t comfortable sharing their views with a large audience.
“We use Threadit to show each other our progress, ask questions or request feedback without needing to coordinate schedules. This helps us reduce unnecessary meetings while still becoming a tighter-knit team," said Keller Smith, founder and general manager of Threadit.
"We have more time to think and do focused work, and the meetings we keep are more effective and easier to schedule for everyone."
Commenting on Google’s new video platform, Graham Goodrich, senior vice president of Biohaven Pharmaceuticals, said: “Threadit offers a new way for us to drive engagement and meaningful connection with our customers. These simple, snackable videos help our teams increase productivity and break through the clutter.”
