Wayra partners with Cambridge Wireless to improve tech corridor

Partnership aims to encourage collaboration among tech businesses

Telefonica's start-up accelerator Wayra Open Future has partnered with Cambridge Wireless to strengthen relations between London and Cambridge tech hubs.

Open Future will help members of technology community body Cambridge Wireless get a foot in the door of the UK's start-up scene and give businesses access to Telefonica's European and Latin American customer base of 300 million.

"The real potential of this partnership is to strengthen regional ecosystems across the UK as a whole," said director Gary Stewart of Wayra Open Future, UK. "Wayra Open Future and CW are exemplars as to the aspirations and global appetites of our UK tech-based businesses. Many of the products and applications they're developing will provide compelling, industry-changing solutions in years to come."

Cambridge Wireless will also discount membership, including access to technology events and conferences and chances, for more than 100 Open Future start-ups.

Abhi Naha, head of marketing and business development at Cambridge Wireless, said: "This is a very exciting partnership, creating many opportunities for these exciting new businesses to become part of a well-established and connected ecosystem around connected devices, data and services, leveraging the strengths of Wayra Open Future and Cambridge Wireless."

Mobile and networking companies registered as members of tech firm community Cable Wireless will be granted access to Telefonica's investor, acceleration, entrepreneurship, and innovation networks.

Open Future claimed its global entrepreneurship and innovation network has invested more than 300 million in 500 businesses so far.
